Rhee was appointed chancellor of the Washington, D.C. public school system in 2007. At the time, the district was one of the worst in the country. Students were performing poorly on standardized tests, and the dropout rate was high. Rhee implemented a number of controversial reforms, including closing failing schools, firing underperforming teachers, and increasing the use of charter schools.

Rhee's reforms were met with resistance from some teachers and parents. However, they also led to significant improvements in student achievement. By the time Rhee left office in 2010, the Washington, D.C. public school system had made significant progress. Test scores had improved, and the dropout rate had declined.

In her book, Rhee argues that the nation's worst school districts can be turned around if they are given the right leadership and resources. She says that the key to success is to focus on what is best for students, and not to be afraid to make tough decisions.

Rhee's book is a must-read for anyone who is interested in education reform. It is a powerful and inspiring story of how one person can make a difference.
