The Early Years

Joseph Patrick Kennedy was born on September 6, 1888, in Boston, Massachusetts. His parents, Patrick and Mary Kennedy, were Irish immigrants who had come to America in search of a better life. Patrick Kennedy was a successful businessman and political figure, and he instilled in his son a strong work ethic and a deep sense of ambition.

Joseph Kennedy attended Boston Latin School and Harvard College, where he excelled academically and became a star athlete. Political Ambitions

In 1940, Kennedy resigned from his government post to become the United States ambassador to the United Kingdom. He served in this position for two years, during which time he played a key role in the negotiations that led to the United States' entry into World War II.

The Kennedy Dynasty

Joseph Kennedy had nine children, including three who would go on to become prominent politicians: John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, and Edward M. Kennedy. Kennedy was a strict but loving father, and he instilled in his children the same values of hard work and ambition that had led to his own success.

John F. Kennedy was elected President of the United States in 1960. He was assassinated in 1963, just two years into his presidency. Robert F. Kennedy served in the United States Senate for 47 years, becoming one of the most influential and respected members of Congress.
