Early Life and Education

Patrick Henry was born on May 29, 1736, in Studley, Virginia. He was the son of John Henry, a planter, and Sarah Winston Henry. Henry received little formal education, but he was an avid reader and a gifted orator. He began his career as a lawyer in 1760 and quickly gained a reputation for his eloquence and persuasive abilities.

Political Career

Henry entered politics in 1765 when he was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses.
